MACS facelift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension Lift) is a modern rhytidectomy method that offers a youthful appearance to the face and neck. The technique uses small incisions and suspends the sagging tissues with sutures in special places. This type of facelift is ideal for women and men who experience sagging skin in the middle and lower part of the face, as well as in the lower jaw and neck area.

What should be done before surgery?

First, a complete medical history is collected and photographs are taken of the area to be operated on. It is recommended that you stop smoking 4 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery to reduce the chances of complications. You should also avoid the use of aspirin, anticoagulants and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen before surgery. In addition, it is important to keep blood pressure at normal levels to avoid hematomas.

What happens during surgery?

Incisions are made at the temples, around the ear and up to the scalp. A thin tissue under the skin, called the SMAS, is lifted with stitches and excess skin is removed. The skin is carefully sutured to reduce wrinkles and restore sagging, giving a youthful and natural result.

Bathing is allowed on the third postoperative day. The stitches are removed 5-7 days after the surgery, until then the use of the ribbon is also recommended. You will be able to start exercising in 2 weeks.

What are the possible complications?

Possible complications, as in any surgery, exist but are limited in incidence. Some possible complications are the following: bleeding - hematoma, inflammation, facial nerve palsy, disturbances in the sensation of the skin (most often in the earlobe), deformed scar.
