Breast reconstruction after mastectomy
For those who have undergone surgical treatment for breast cancer or other medical reasons, we provide many suitable solutions to restore the area. This reconstructive journey can begin either at the same time as mastectomy (immediate repair) or at a later selected time (delayed repair). Breast reconstruction involves the meticulous art of the plastic surgeon, reconstructing all or part of the breast that was surgically removed. In our clinic we use various methods depending on individual needs:
- Restoration using breast implants
Reconstruction using implants is a safe option with satisfactory aesthetic results, especially when it is possible to preserve the skin of the breast. Silicone implants can be placed immediately, when oncological reasons allow it, or gradually, which involves the gradual use of a temporary implant (expander) before the insertion of permanent implants.
- Autologous Breast Reconstruction
With a flap: We use the woman's own tissues. Parts of skin, fat and muscle are transferred from donor areas such as the back, abdomen or buttocks in order to reconstruct the breast.
With fat transfer: Through liposuction, excess fat is collected and meticulously placed over the entire surface of the breast. Although multiple sessions may be required, it is recommended for reconstructing small breasts or enhancing other reconstructive techniques.
- Restoration with a combination of implant and autologous tissue
The combination of implant and autologous tissue, especially from the back, allows for a more satisfactory breast reconstruction, often with an additional silicone implant for optimal results.
- Modification of a normal breast
Achieving symmetry may require adjustments to the unaffected part of the breast. Increasing for size differences, increasing for slack, or decreasing for oversized ensure symmetry. It is typically done after the initial reconstruction so that the operated breast has received its final shape and volume.
